My bike ride training

2019 was the year I stopped just “riding bikes” and started mastering them—all because of my new road bike. That sleek, aerodynamic frame didn’t just look cool; it unlocked a whole new level of speed and control I never knew I had.

Before this bike, keeping up with Dad’s adult group rides felt like fighting a headwind the whole time. But with its aerodynamic design, everything changed.

  • I learned to tuck my elbows in and lower my chest to the handlebars—small tweaks that let the bike slice through air instead of pushing against it.
  • By the second month, I wasn’t just “hanging on” to the group anymore. I could easily hold 30KM/H for miles, right alongside the adults. Dad even joked that I’d gone from “the kid who needs a draft” to “the one everyone wants to draft behind.”

Bad weather used to kill my momentum, but Zwift turned those days into my secret training weapon—especially when it came to climbing.

  • I started with flat routes, but soon I dared to tackle Alpe du Zwift KOM—that steep, winding virtual climb that felt impossible at first. My legs burned, and I had to pause more than once to catch my breath.
  • Week after week, I’d log on after school, pushing a little harder each time. By winter, I could climb the Alpe without stopping. The best part? That Zwift strength translated to real rides: come spring, hills that used to make me walk felt easy.

By the end of 2019, my bike wasn’t just a piece of gear—it was a teacher. Its aerodynamic frame taught me to ride smarter, and Zwift taught me to ride stronger. Every time I clip in now, I still feel that same excitement I felt the first day I took it out.
